Newport Coast Bicyclist’s Funeral Will Be Held in Kentucky, Colleagues Say
A man killed while biking down Ridge Park Road last week will be buried next to his father in Henderson, Ky., workers at his Anaheim business said this week.
Darryl Benefiel, 43, was killed when a car turning onto Tesoro struck him on his bicycle just after 5 p.m. on July 23. He died on the scene, police said. Read the story here.
“This has been a difficult week for the Benefiel family and all who knew Darryl,” an email said that went to his colleagues and friends. “Darryl was an energetic man with a great passion for cycling. All of us at Innovative Tool Sales will miss his friendship and the contributions he made to our organization. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Darryl’s family, friends and colleagues.”
His employer said that condolences can be sent to Benefiel’s mother, Karen Benefiel through the funeral home, which also will have information on services. The funeral home is Benton & Glunt, 629 South Green Street, Henderson, KY 42420; (270) 827-3535.

Corona del Mar Today has asked Newport Beach police if there are updates in the case and will update if information becomes available.
