Junior Guards Hold Monster Mile Event

About 1,000 of Newport Beach’s Junior Guards participated in the annual Monster Mile event this morning.
“The event involves running from the Balboa Pier to 10th Street (1 mile) and then swimming back,” said Jennifer Schulz, a Newport Beach Fire Department spokeswoman. An alternative, land-based course also was offered.

The Speak Up Newport Board of Directors presented the 2011 Dorothy Hardcastle Scholarship Awards to two students at their July meeting.
