A bicyclist told Newport Beach police that he was attacked by another cyclist who hit him, took his cell phone and then threw his bike tire into the Back Bay.

A 72-year-old Dana Point woman left her purse in Fashion Island, and when she went to retrieve it, a thief had stolen it, according to Newport Beach police reports.
The theft occurred between 3:45 and 4 p.m. Sunday at 835 Newport Center Drive. The loss was $285, reports said.
