The City of Newport Beach used an automated telephone system to call residents a few moments ago with warnings to stay off beaches and out of the water because of the tsunami generated by the 8.8 earthquake in Chile.

Lifeguards say a 6-8′ surge is possible by 2:30 p.m. today, according to the Orange County Register.
