artThree runners, cheered on by spectators from homes behind small white fences, with sailboat welcome signs and whale weather vanes — there’s even a dog, and a tiny version of the No. 5 lifeguard stand.

What could be more Corona del Mar than that?

The CdM 5K Run Committee held its first meeting last month, and the first order of business was unveiling the artwork to be used for the event, scheduled for Saturday June 5.

Artist Mary Kay Crowley, who sells her work in a Balboa Island gallery, was selected after a search that lasted most of last summer, according to a city memo. She met with the run’s steering committee several times over the fall before completing the acrylic painting, which will be featured on brochures, posters, shirts and other marketing materials.
