CureDuchenne, a Corona del Mar-based charity aimed at eradicating Duchenne muscular dystrophy, has announced a nationwide event that will raise money as participants climb and hike.
The event, called Pick Your Peak, will take place June 19 and 20. Organizers say you can either be a team leader or be assigned a team, but each team is asked to raise $5,000. Teams then can climb any hill or mountain of their choice, with funds going for research projects aimed at finding a cure for DMD.

Debra and Paul Miller of Corona del Mar founded CureDuchenne a year after their only son was diagnosed in 2002. The organization has gained national attention, and they’ve raised $5 million and projects they have funded have made it to three active clinical trials. Currently, however, the disease has no cure; boys often are in wheelchairs by age 12 and historically do not live past their teens.
