CdM Construction Projects Set To Begin

streetThree construction projects are scheduled to begin today in Corona del Mar, creating months of detours and parking restrictions in areas of the village.

Parts of Bayside Drive will be closed for an Orange County Sanitation District project that will update a trunk sewer line. The project will close all westbound traffic between El Paseo Drive and Carnation Avenue; eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane. Read our earlier story about this project here.

Another project scheduled to begin today will renovate landscaping and add an irrigation system in the Avocado Avenue median between Kewamee and Waterfront drives, city officials said. Parking along the medians will be restricted during construction hours. The project is scheduled for completion in March.

The final project is Phase II of the Corona del Mar Street Pavement Rehabilitation project, which will repair worn concrete sidewalks, curb and gutters, and repave streets within the boundary of Avocado and Carnation avenues, Bayside Drive, and East Coast Highway. The project is scheduled to be complete in April.

Crews will work 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and “no parking” signs will be in place. The Bayside Drive detours will be in effect even when crews are not present, said Daisy Covarrubias, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Sanitation District.

Newport Beach city officials said drivers should use alternative routes. Also, if you live near construction areas, you should use a broom for sweeping driveways and patios, city officials said, because standing water can undermine the new pavement.
