Lifeguard Battalion Chief Reenie Boyer retired in December. Boyer started the city’s Junior Lifeguard program in 1983 with 54 students; the program now has 1,300 students each summer.

Pictured in the top photo, from left, are Junior Guard instructor Jennifer Bloomfield; former Mayor Evelyn Hart; Newport lifeguard Tim Stickler; former Junior Guard instructor Laura Thompson; and Boyer.

The middle photo shows Boyer with City Councilwoman Leslie Daigle.

And the bottom photo shows Boyer with Laird Hayes, who is NFL referee, an Orange Coast College surf instructor and men’s soccer coach; and Aaron Chaney, Corona del Mar High School girls’ water polo coach.

The party was held Thursday at the Newport Beach American Legion Hall. Read our earlier story here.
