art1. Becker Surfboards may have closed its Corona del Mar shop for good, but you can take a piece of the eclectic artwork home forever. The Becker store’s artist said he’s selling all his pieces in a show scheduled from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the shop at 3140 East Coast Highway.

Brian Bent spent years creating the pieces that decorated the shop’s interior and exterior, from funky sculptures to paintings of iconic musicians like Joe Strummer, David Bowie and Debbie Harry.

The shop opened in 1994 and closed this month. Read our earlier story about the shop’s demise here.

2. Crystal Cove State Park is packed with interesting activities this weekend. Park birders are taking a winter bird migration walk in the inland and coastal areas at 8:30 a.m. Saturday — and if you like birds, you’re welcome to join them. Meet at the Los Trancos lot near the trailer. And at 2 p.m., volunteers will lead a tidepool exploration and research walk, teaching participants to count hermit crabs, limpets and seastars in the marine protected area; meet at the Los Trancos lot near the trailer. At 3 p.m., you can help the park’s Natural Resource officer count the threatened snowy plovers; meet in cottage #34 next to the reservation office in the Historic District. The count will begin with a brief orientation, and participants will get data sheets to record their observations. At 3 p.m. Sunday, the tide will fall to an extremely low -1.3, exposing Little Treasure Cove, which is only accessible during the lowest tides. Park volunteers will lead a guided walk, helping identify animals and their adaptions. Meet at Pelican Point Lot #1 (turn toward the coast at the Newport Coast stoplight). All events are free but the park does have a $15 day-use parking fee.

3. Head to Roger’s Gardens for a lecture called “My Edible Garden” scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday. The lecture by Steve Hampson will cover everything from herbs, fruits, berries, vegetables and more, including tips on planting, harvesting, pruning and more. Roger’s is located at 2301 San Joaquin Hills Road. For more information — especially if it rains — call (949) 721-2100 x583.

4. This is the time of year to settle down for a nice, long weekend of college hoops. Can Cal win, paving the way for a tournament spot? Duke or Georgetown? Can Missouri keep its home winning streak alive? And after it all — who will be No. 1? It’s going to be a fun few days — check out the TV schedule here.

5. Fine, fine, we get the message: The Meat House in Costa Mesa is the hot new butcher/wine store/Foodie destination. Everyone we know (in and out of the media) is gushing about it, so this weekend why not check it out? The Meat House, 103 East 17th Street in Costa Mesa.
