Trees Burned on the Beach

Someone dragged Christmas trees from the Shore Cliffs neighborhood down to Beach Three, then set the trees on fire. The charred branches littered the beach on Sunday.
Is this some SoCal holiday tradition? Because while it smelled great, it seems dangerous, given fire conditions.
