Police and school district officials were on hand Tuesday morning for a ceremony to honor Harbor View students who graduated from an 11-week anti-drug program.
D.A.R.E. Officer Rachel Johnson presented a video that showed what the students had learned, including tests they had performed wearing goggles that simulated being drunk, and a breathing test that showed what it was like to be a pack-a-day smoker.
Students Will Cord, Alex Stowell, Karl Donovan and Christopher Rybus were awarded prizes for their essays on how to resist drug abuse.
“Drugs are dumb,” Christopher read from his essay. “I have only one life, so I want to make the best of it.”
Police Chief Robert Luman as well as other officials attended and shook hands with each student as they were presented a D.A.R.E. diploma. D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education.
