rose-2-300x1981. A Newport Beach firefighter who became an organ donor when he died last year will be honored by having his portrait featured in a float in the Rose Parade. Firefighters gathered at the Lido station this week to work on the portrait, which will be one of 76 organ donor portraits in the Donate Life float. Read our story here.

2. A 24-year-old Huntington Beach man died in a fiery Christmas Eve crash that closed East Coast Highway between Bayside Drive and Jamboree Road. The man was a passenger in a gray Ferrari that jumped the median and crashed into a tow truck. Three others were injured, including the Ferrari’s driver. Read our story here.

3. A Corona del Mar woman saves her father’s life when he choked on a piece of steak earlier this week. Kate Mulville said she knew exactly what to do thanks to trainin she received as a member of the Newport Beach Fire Department’s Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT. Read our story here.
