At least five vehicle burglaries were reported this morning in the Cameo Highlands neighborhood, and police continue to search for a suspect in the case.
Newport Beach police, in marked cars and undercover, will continue to patrol Corona del Mar neighborhoods between Morning Canyon Road and Poppy Avenue on the south side of East Coast Highway. The department has issued two AlertOC calls to residents in those areas, asking them to call (949) 644-3717 if they see anything suspicious, or to call 911 in an emergency.
“We ask you to remain vigilant and exercise common sense,” the police message said.
According to online reports, burglaries were reported this morning in the 600 block of Rockford Road; the 4700 and 4800 blocks of Surrey Drive; and the 4500 and 4600 blocks of Cortland Drive. Vehicle burglaries also were reported this morning in the 3900 block of Inlet Isle Drive and the 200 block of Orchid Avenue, but it was not immediately known if those two cases were related. The Cameo thefts apparently were vehicle burglaries, and the suspects used an object to smash the vehicle windows, but further details were not immediately available about the thefts.
Neighbors in the Shore Cliffs area said they noticed police in the area about 4:30 a.m. today, searching for suspects. One woman said she saw police chasing someone, who was then arrested. Two suspects were arrested, and police dogs searched the area. Another woman said she was taking a walk when officers advised her to go inside because of the police canine.
