Bayside Drive Closures Planned This Winter

Sewer improvement work scheduled to begin in January will cause months of detours along Bayside Drive in Corona del Mar, according to city officials.

The work will shut down all westbound traffic between El Paseo Drive and Carnation Avenue. Eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane. Construction hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, although some night work is expected. The project is expected to be complete by spring.

Detours are planned to take traffic along Carnation Avenue to Second Avenue, then to Avocado Avenue to East Coast Highway. Drivers can then detour through the Irvine Terrace neighborhood along Irvine Terrace, along Malabar and El Paseo drives.

According to the Orange County Sanitation District website, the project includes work on more than 3,000 feet of pipe plus a small city sewer that connects to the trunk line. The work, the website says, could extend the life of the sewers by more than 25 years. For more information, call the Construction Hotline at (714) 378-2965.

Information also will be available to the public at a meeting planned for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol office at 1901 Bayside Drive.
