Within days of hearing serious concerns from parents, officials with the Newport-Mesa Unified School District set up a webpage and a Facebook group to explore questions about the “enclave” concept for Corona del Mar Middle School.
Preliminary plans would create an area of the campus for middle school students to call their own; district officials have named this area an enclave. The project stems from the Measure F bond that voters passed in 2005. The current plans also would add a new theater to the campus.
But at a PTA meeting this week, several parents said the enclave concept wouldn’t help middle school students who had to mix with older students when they went to P.E. or lunch. Read our story about that meeting here.
Laura Boss, district director of communication, vowed at that meeting to set up a website, which she made public today; click here to check it out. Boss also created a Facebook group called “Corona del Mar 7-8 Facilities and Programs” that so far has just seven members and no discussions, but it is expected to be a place for parents to ask questions and offer their opinions in a public online forum.
There also is a website and Facebook group set up for the enclave project proposed at Costa Mesa High School.
