Great story, I was just looking to see if there was any info. about "the Hurley Bell Inn" because I found an ash tray that is from there. It has an "H" and a "B"inside a crest and then under that, it says Corona Del Mar, Cool....
Thanks,
Brad Martin

Back in the day, diners could venture from Hawai'i to England in just a few short steps.

Don the Beachcomber was located right next to the Hurley Bell .... hop into Don's for a Mai Tai then off to Merrie Olde England for a pint or a flight.

Great days for CDM ....and great days for this old dude. AND ...parking was no problem!

Stay well and dine out often .... preferably at FC!

"Bunty" (Marguerite) Mac Collough Atkinson was married to my grandfather, Tommy Atkinson. At the time of her death in 1990, she had no living blood relatives except some very distant ones in Australia. Who is Robert MacCollough?

The Five Crowns is haunted because Marguerite had a brother whose rowing oars (when he was in the First Eight at Oxford and also at Eton) are still kept in the Inn - they hang from the ceiling in the main dining room. Her brother was killed in World War I at the Battle of the Somme and he would like to be rowing up and down the Thames in his phantom boat. They should be returned to his relations (of which I am one) to allow him this pleasure. RM
