Civic Center Update Scheduled For Council Study Session

Today’s City Council Study Session will focus on an update of the proposed Civic Center complex, with an update and a chance for public comment.

The Civic Center project would be built on undeveloped land near the Central Library along Macarthur Boulevard. Last week, Mayor Ed Selich said that grading could begin as early as January or February 2010, but that budget constraints could force the project to be built in stages. Already city employees are working on managing dirt removal, he said, to find builders who want to buy the dirt excavated from the site.

The city has held several public meetings for citizens to ask questions about the plans, and to give their opinions. Read our stories about the project here and here.

The Council Study Session will begin at 4 p.m. in Council Chambers at 3300 Newport Boulevard. You can also watch video streaming of the session through the city’s website.
