A man is accused of pushing an 8-year-old boy who was playing on a putting green at the Marriott Newport Coast Villas, then grabbing the child’s mother by the arm when she confronted him later, said Newport Beach Police Lt. Craig Fox.

The incident reportedly occurred Sunday at the resort at 23000 Newport Coast Drive, police reports state. “The report indicates that an 8-year-old boy was playing with some other children on a putting green, when a male adult told him to leave, and pushed the child,” Fox said. “The child said he then tripped and fell down.”

Later the child’s mother confronted the man, and she said he grabbed her by the arm. “All involved parties were interviewed, and a crime report was filed for battery” Fox said.

The wife of the man involved in the incident reported that later that night, someone caused $300 in damage to a rental car, possibly by using a key to scratch two lines on the door, reports state. Fox said it wasn’t clear if the incidents were related, and there were no surveillance cameras in either area.

In other police news, a Corona del Mar man filed a police report stating that he lost his $5,500 wedding ring while vacationing in Hawaii on June 25.
