Newport Beach police arrested a Sage Hill High School bus driver on suspicion of burglary after the woman was caught rifling through a 16-year-old student’s purse in the girls locker room.

The woman, 44, of Santa Ana, was arrested at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at the school at 20402 Newport Coast Drive, according to a police report. Her bail was set at $20,000.

Sgt. Evan Sailor said that girls participating in the school’s cross country and volleyball programs routinely leave their purses out on a bench in the locker room.

The day before, a student had $150 taken from her purse, he said. Officers believe the same woman stole that money and was looking to take more, but she was caught first by a school employee.
