movie1. Take in a free movie in Grant Howald Park as the city concludes celebrations for the Community Youth Center’s grand reopening this week. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket and watch “Madagascar 2″ from 6 to 9 p.m. What could be better than a family movie under the stars — except for having “(You’ve Got to) Move It” stuck in your head the rest of the weekend.

2. Meet an artist at SCAPE gallery at 2859 East Coast Highway, where an artist reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Artist Victor Hugo Zayas has drawn on Nietzsche, Carl Jung as well as astronomy for his wall sculptures, which will be displayed through Nov. 2. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and by appointment. For more information, call (949) 723-3406.

3. Enjoy family fun at an old-fashioned country fair from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the St. Mark Community Preschool at San Joaquin Hills Road and MacArthur Boulevard. The second annual family barbecue and carnival is a fundraiser — school officials want to raise $10,000 to help pay for the preschool construction costs.

4. Enjoy Crystal Cove State Park, two ways. First, the Crystal Cove Alliance is hosting the “Great Plein Air Art Experience” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday — but you have to pre-register on the group’s website or by calling (949) 376-6200. The new program costs $50, or $40 for Alliance members, plus a $15 day-use parking feel. Or, you can take a walk through the 12-acre historic district and learn about how each of the old cottages were used, plus catch the painting demonstrations. The walk begins at 10 a.m. and is free (except for the $15 day-use parking). Meet at the Los Trancos parking lot trailer.

5. Watch the boats go by as tthe Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club (BCYC) holds the 4th Annual Corinthian Cup Regatta on Saturday and Sunday. About 85 junior sailors will participate in five to seven races, depending on wind conditions. For more information call (949) 644-9530 or visit the club website.
