Cure Duchenne, a Corona del Mar-based charity aimed at eradicating a common and deadly form of muscular dystrophy, will host a fundraising poker tournament on Saturday, organizers said.

Tickets are now on sale for “Dealing for Duchenne” event, which will take place at the Newport Beach Marriott and Spa beginning at 6 p.m Saturday. The event will feature live music by the Pinch Me! band as well as live and silent auctions and a drawing. Prizes include a stay at the Montage, a chance to be special guest at a Hollywood Premier Party with John Travolta and Robin Williams, walk-on movie parts with Steve Carell and Paul Rudd, Lakers tickets (not on the court, but fantastic seats belong to the owner), Ducks tickets on the ice and more.

CureDuchenne was founded in 2003, a year after Debra and Paul Miller of Corona del Mar learned that their only son, now 12, has the disease. The disease has no cure, and most children with it will die before they leave their teens. The Millers decided that prognosis was unacceptable; they have raised more than $5 million, and they have funded projects that have made it to three active clinical trials.

Late this summer, several CureDuchenne supporters climbed Mount Rainier to raise money. Read our stories about that climb, and the organization, here and here.
