Burglars broke into a 1998 Lexus in the 1500 block of Seacrest Drive late last week, smashing the passenger side window and taking off with a leather jacket and a checkbook. The suspects then broke into a Tahoe parked nearby, stealing the vehicle registration, Newport Beach police records state. The burglary occurred sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning.

The victim said that police gave her the following advice:

* put a bright motion-sensored light on the driveway.
* be sure to remove everything from the car when you close it up at night.
* be sure to remove all garage door openers from all vehicles left outside.
* keep a watchful eye out for people on foot in the neighborhood at night
* report anything suspicious to the police, never hesitate to call.

Police records also showed another burglary Friday on Windward Lane in the Back Bay area. In that case, burglars stole cds and glasses from a car; and around the same time they stole credit cards and television screens from another car in the same block. On Saturday, $800 was taken from a car in Newport Coast.

Other news from the crime logs:

Police made two DUI arrests in Corona del Mar on Sunday, one at East Coast Highway at Irvine Terrace and the other at East Coast Highway and Orchid Avenue. Three other DUI arrests occurred Saturday: at Marguerite Avenue and Sausalito Drive, at Jamboree Road and Bayside Drive; and at East Coast Highway and Iris Avenue.

Also, on Friday night at Jasmine Avenue and Ocean Boulevard police arrested a 42-year-old Newport Beach man and booked him on suspicion of possession of narcotics with bail set at $20,000.
