The Newport Beach Public Literacy Program received a 2009 Allergan Foundation grant. The $2,500 grant will help fund programs and materials that provide literacy instruction to adults in the Newport Beach area. Currently, the program has 115 learners working with 90 volunteers in both small classes and one-on-one. For more information about the program, call (949) 717-3874.
According to a library release, the Allergan Foundation has made more than $12 million in grants since it formed in 1998. This is the second year that the library’s literacy program received a grant.
