Port Restaurant Appeals Decision to Limit Hours, Music

The owner of the Port Restaurant has filed an appeal of a planning commission decision that would not let him stay open later or have live music.

The commissioners voted unanimously last month against Ali Zadeh’s request to allow his restaurant at 440 Heliotrope Ave. to stay open until 1 a.m., have live music and serve lunches. Although hundreds of Port supporters signed petitions and several spoke at public hearings in favor of the restaurant, other neighbors started a counter petition and testified that the restaurant brought noise, public urination and parking problems to the area.

A hearing on the appeal must be held within 60 days of the filing, which occurred on Friday, city officials said.

Zadeh did not reply to multiple requests for comment. Read our earlier coverage here.
