A Friday night argument ended with a Saturday morning shooting in Corona del Mar, and although no one was injured, a 77-year-old man remains in jail and faces several charges.
“The incident began as an argument the night before,” said Jennifer Manzella, a Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman. “In the morning, the father brandished a gun and told the (adult) son to leave the residence.”
The arguing continued, and then the older man fired multiple shots at his son outside the residence, Manzella said. The son was not shot, but he sustained minor injuries after a physical altercation that came after the gunshots, she said.
Police received a report at 8:35 a.m. Saturday of unknown trouble in the 400 block of Iris Avenue, online logs state.
The father was arrested at 9:24 a.m., according to a report, and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon/firearm and child endangerment because other young family members were present and could have been injured, Manzella said.
“These charges may change pending the detective investigation,” she said.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s jail logs indicate the man remains in custody with bail set at $500,000.
