The owner of the popular Crow Bar and Kitchen is buying Oysters restaurant.
“You heard correctly,” said Steve Geary, owner of Crow Bar. “I am currently in the process of purchasing Oysters.”
According to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control website, Oysters’ owner, Cary Redfearn, is transferring the Oysters license to Esquina Cuervo, Inc. Geary is named as president/secretary of that company.
The restaurant will continue to be called Oysters.
Redfearn last year opened the Lumberyard restaurant in Laguna Beach. Lumberyard, located at 384 Forest Ave., serves American food in “one of the most historic buildings in downtown Laguna Beach, according to the restaurant’s website.
Oysters, located at 2515 East Coast Highway, has been a Corona del Mar favorite since 1989. For 11 of those years, Scott Brandon — now the chef for Crow Bar — was chef at Oysters. He will become executive chef at both restaurants, Geary said.
The deal should be finalized in a few weeks, Geary said.
“We will initially be fine-tuning the menu with some fresh new ideas and improved price points,” Geary said. “This will be welcomed by the loyal customer base that has been with Oysters for so many years, as well as an instrument to bring back diners looking for an improved experience at the restaurant.”
Oysters will be closed early in 2010, he added, for remodeling and “truly upgrading the dining scene in CDM.”
