UPDATED WITH DETAILS FROM POLICE
Five vehicle burglaries were reported within about 30 minutes of each other, all within a few blocks, in the Cameo Highlands neighborhood, police reports state.
The first burglary was reported at 5:43 a.m. in the 4600 block of Dorchester Road, when a car window was smashed and a camera stolen. Shortly after, two reports were made in the 700 block of Cameo Highlands Drive. In one, the rear driver side window was smashed, and the thieves took a leather satchel, a laptop, calculator and iPhone charger from behind the seat. In the other report, two vehicles had the windows smashed, with iPod speakers, a Bose system and Bluetooth taken. Another burglary was reported at 6:18 a.m. in the 4700 block of Dorchester Road; no details on that case were available.
No further details were immediately available.
In other police news, a 49-year-old Corona del Mar man was arrested on suspicion of making a criminal terrorist threat. The man was arrested about 9 p.m. Friday at Dahlia and Fifth avenues; his bail was set at $50,000. Police said the man is accused of arguing with his 57-year-old sister at their parents home on Goldenrod Avenue. The sister said the man threatened to kill her, his face close to hers, and was very upset and aggressive. He fled the home as police were responding and was located and arrested shortly after at a nearby gas station, said Lt. Craig Fox. No weapons were involved, and it was a threat of violence only, he said.
At noon on Friday, police arrested a 19-year-old Santa Ana woman on suspicion of reckless driving and on an outstanding warrant. Her arrest occurred at Bayside Drive and Marguerite Avenue; bail was set at $15,000. Also, police arrested a 34-year-old Corona del Mar resident on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The arrest occurred at Larkspur and Fourth avenues at 1:42 p.m. Saturday; bail was set at $2,500. And a woman who left her car in a Fashion Island parking structure overnight reported that someone removed the door handle of her Mazda. The damage, estimated at $100, was reported Sunday afternoon.
Police also took a report of a found bicycle at Jasmine and Fifth avenues at 11:28 a.m. today.
