Amy, CDM could solve a major parking problem in village by enforcing R2 code. A BIG part of parking problem is the huge number of garage conversion rentals. Totally not to code or legal. These tenants have no assigned space so have to park on streets. Yes, it's part of the quaint village living, but at any given time I can pick out 5 to 6 cars on my street alone that come from converted garages. Even still, I can always find a space with just a little bit of trying. Parking in CDM is really not a problem, nothing like West Newport. And, oh yes, people living in the flower streets have this thing about leaving notes on cars in front of their homes! I don't get it!

I agree with your assessment on the lack of a parking problem in CDM, however I can think of two exceptions to this:
1. The 400 block of Orchid when the Post Office is open. Combine the Post Office crowd with those folks at Rose Donuts or the dry cleaners, and you have a mess on your hands. And, it gets worse on Monday and Wednesday mornings due to street sweeping!
2. The first Sunday in December when people descend on CDM to attend the Annual Christmas Boozefest Walk. If you haven't had parking problems on that day, consider yourself lucky.

I have lived in San Francisco and Balboa Island, and now Corona del Mar. I know parking problems. The Port Bar has had several problems including illegal entertainment, blasting neighbors with loud music and code violation based on police reports. They wanted to expand an already successful sit down dinner to live entertainment, expand hours and serve lunch. I am not against the Port Bar, and have visited it. Several of our Petition drive came from other business near the Port Bar, saying no expansion. The owner stated to the zoning commission that they have an exclusive parking rights next to the three story building that is less that half filled, which in the meeting was shown to be false. We moved in based on knowing what the zoning regulation are, the hours of the restaurant, and surprised by the loud music. Now they want to change the game plane at the cost of the land owners and renters. The owners bought the business knowing the parking problems. There is a reason why Albertsons hires a security guard to protect their valuable parking space. We have to expect parking congestion, but not by promoting more cars. I never mind walking three or four block to park my car, even with no street lights. I do mind when my daughters have to, or when friends and family wish to share my enchanted city. It becomes a fire hazard when other need to park in the alley. The R2's are a problem that was accepted by the city. It can not be taken back, or undone. We accept parking problems, but common sense tells us there is a limit. Thank you.

Ask the folks complaining about parking where their cars are parked. Many people with garage space in the back, park on the street in the front. They don't use either of their garage spaces. If you live near the restaurants, make sure you have your own parking space.

I don't see the parking problem either and I don't think a robotic garage will be successful in this area. No one is going to pay $8-$11 to park at the Old School lot. They will find a street spot instead. This lot is also too far to be used as beach parking, no one is going to carry their beach gear that far when they can park next to the sand for the same price. As far as the noise from Port Restauant.... You bought/rent near a restaurant, in a Village, in a beach community.... Did you really expect quiet?

Been to port on multiple occassions and the Music has never been too loud as their sound tests have shown. Parking never a problem for us as we use the lot. I don't think an expensive robotic parking lot is a solution either. The city just has to look into illegal R2 conversions and enforce illegal renting that will solve lots of parking problems in CDM if any!
