Taste of Newport Opens Tonight

Taste2009logoIn what always seems like the official end of summer, Taste of Newport 2009 opens at 6 p.m. tonight, with dozens of local restaurants offering their best bites as well as live music. The annual event, which takes place Newport Center Drive near Fashion Island, is in its 21st year and is expected to draw as many as 60,000 visitors during its three-day run.

Corona del Mar will be represented by restaurants including The Port Restaurant, Ruby’s, The Crow Bar and Kitchen and Five Crowns, but dozens of other local restaurants will be on hand as well, so you can try Indian, Chinese, Italian or Thai dishes. Tickets are $25, which include entertainment: Sugar Ray tonight, Train on Saturday and American Idol David Cook on Sunday. There also will be cooking demonstrations. Children 8 and under are free, and free parking will be available. Food and drinks are extra, but you can buy a digital card to load with one-dollar increments; “tastes” cost between $1 and $7.
