B.B. Simon’s flagship shop held a grand opening party tonight, celebrating the first-ever boutique devoted to work by local designer Simon Tavassoli.

The shop at 3429 East Coast Highway features elaborate mirrors, bracelets, a grand piano and other items. The piano ($75,000) is one of the most expensive items (and has caught the eye of Elton John, among other celebrities), but some items such as a bejeweled star fish paperweight are priced at $36.
Tavassoli, who lives in Laguna Beach, began designing belts 20 years ago. (The B.B. stands for “belts by…”)
The belts became a must-have item for rock stars and other collectors, and Tavassoli began designing more items, using millions of Swarovski crystals each year. His designs are sold worldwide in boutiques in cities including Dubai and Paris. But Corona del Mar seemed the perfect place for his flagship store, he said. All pieces are hand-made in Tustin.
Already, shop workers said that business is brisk. “We can’t wait til Christmas,” the shop manager said.
