A Corona del Mar man climbed to the top of Mount Rainier this week in an effort to raise money to save his only son’s life.
Paul Miller, in the photo on the right, posed for this photo along with, from right, Zach Schauf, guide Seth Waterfall and Christian Schauf. The team reached the top of the 14,411-foot mountain in Washington at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Debra and Paul Miller founded the organization CureDuchenne after learning in 2002 that their only child, now 12, has the disease, the most common form of muscular dystrophy. They and ten other climbers attempted to reach the summit of Mount Rainier in Washington, raising a dollar a foot, or $14,410 per climber. As of last week, they raised $119,000 — $51,000 short of the goal.
Six of twelve members of the team reached the summit. Paul Miller said that it was a very emotional experience, reflecting on why he climbed — for his son.
