Thousands of runners cruised through Corona del Mar early this morning, hitting the 2-mile mark of the event near Marguerite Avenue by the first water station.

The 10th annual OC Marathon had 22,000 people registered for events that include a half marathon and kids’ run, according to the event’s website.

The marathon began at 5:30 a.m. near Fashion Island, then followed a course along East Coast Highway to Orchid Avenue. Runners then raced along Ocean Boulevard, to Bayside Drive and then out of Newport Beach toward the finish line at the OC Fair and Event Center.

Parking in Corona del Mar was restricted overnight, but roads that were closed for the race will be reopening between 7:10 and 7:45 a.m.
