The Orange County District Attorney’s office is reviewing the case of an August bicycle crash that killed a Laguna Beach woman, a spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday.

Debra H. Deem, 58, was cycling westbound on East Coast Highway about 4:27 p.m. Aug. 28 when she and a westbound white minivan collided. Deem was taken to the Mission Hospital trauma center but died the next day; read our earlier story here.

Newport Beach police have said neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be involved in the crash. The 84-year-old driver of a minivan that struck Deem was not arrested, police said. Caltrans officials said they also were investigating the crash; read our earlier story here.

The city’s second bicycle fatality occurred Nov. 6, when a 41-year-old Irvine man was killed while turning on his bicycle from Marguerite Avenue onto San Joaquin Hills Road. Paul Lin died at the scene, police said.

A memorial ghost bike has been placed at the crash site, along with flowers and a tub of red vine candy. Read our earlier story here.
