Dozens Dress Up, Ride Bikes at Halloween Bicycle Event

Nearly 50 people attended a CdM Halloween Costume bicycle ride that began Saturday morning at the Civic Center, organizer Frank Peters said.

Participants dressed in cycling-friendly costumes and spent two hours touring Corona del Mar.

“Many people were surprised at what they learned as they bicycled their own neighborhood,” he said. “NBPD joined in to assure safe crossings at some of the busier intersections. You can imagine, at some points we blocked the street as we lingered in front of some of the over-the-top halloween decorations, but motor vehicles were able to navigate around us.”

City Councilwoman Nancy Gardner and her granddaughter joined, and Gardner pointed out several historical points along the route, Peters said.

A pre-Thanksgiving ride will cover the Back Bay loop at 10 .m. Nov. 27, Peters said.

Peters, a longtime bicycle safety advocate, is a member of the city’s Bicycle Master Plan Oversight Committee.

It was super to have Nancy Gardner along. Dressed as a clown, she added many insightful comments as we pulled up to some of the more historical homes in CdM. This morning I've been making notes, adding to the script for next year's ride. One thing I believe – everyone learned something about the neighborhood, even me.

What's with the baby riding on the handle bars. Thought that was illegal.
