The City of Newport Beach Scholarship Program will award $350 scholarships to 14 seniors this year, according to the city’s website.
Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. April 29.
To qualify, students must live in Newport Beach or be the child of a regular full-time city employee. They also must be graduating high school in 2013 and applying to an accredited two-year community college or four-year college/university or transferring from a two-year community college to an accredited four-year college/university, and they must have maintained a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.0.
Scholarships will be awarded based on scholastic standing, leadership at school or in the community, essays on career and life plans, and financial need.
The program was established in 1981 to assist qualified students in obtaining a higher education, and funds for the program are provided through a private donation, the website states.
