Yellow paper notices were posted today near the Big Corona State Beach fire rings, reminding the public that the California Coastal Commission will hold a hearing next week that will decide the future of bonfires at the beach.

The notice states that the city has a pending permit that would remove 60 fire rings from city beaches, including 27 rings from Big Corona and the rest from near the Balboa Pier.

On Friday, the Coastal Commission staff posted a report that recommended that the Commission deny the city’s permit request; read our earlier story here.

The Coastal Commission will hold a hearing on the request to remove the fire rings at a March 6 meeting in San Diego. Proponents and opponents of fire rings are planning to attend the meeting and to make comments.
