The Newport Beach Library Foundation’s new series of children’s programs will begin with a three-part series that explores food and cooking, according to a news release.
The Making Memories For Children program is aimed at children from 5 to 12 years old and is designed to “engage, educate and inspire children,” the release said.
The first program is Kids Cook and is hosted by Five Crowns Restaurant. The first session will take place on Sunday March 10 at Five Crowns Restaurant at 3801 East Coast Highway, where children will learn about a variety of fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables in the restaurant garden, then have a hands-on lesson in preparing simple treats.
The second session will take place on March 17 at the Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano, where children will learn about organic food preparation, how food is grown and water conservation. This session will include a hands-on class using the center’s handmade wood oven.
The final session will take place at Five Crowns on March 24, where children and chefs will prepare brunch for parents.
The cost for all three classes, including food and brunch for one child and one parent, is $75 per child. Classes are limited to 25 children, and participants must pre-register.
