An arsonist caused $35 in damage to a trash can early Sunday at the Community Youth Center at 3000 Fifth Avenue, police said.
The incident occurred between 12:45 and 1:05 a.m. Sunday, according to a report. It was reported at 1:06 a.m.
“The arson report indicates that any unknown suspect removed a trash can from the men’s restroom and set it on fire, completely destroying it,” said Kathy Lowe, a Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman, in an email. “Officers checked the area for possible suspects; however were unable to
locate anyone responsible.”
In other police news, a 50-year-old Newport Beach man was arrested at Crown Drive and San Joaquin Hills Road on suspicion of DUI at 1:14 a.m. Friday, according to a report. The man’s bail was $15,000; there was a $15,000 warrant for his arrest, according to the report. Police arrested a 50-year-old Newport Beach woman on suspicion of DUI at 11:25 p.m. Friday at Bayside and El Paseo drives, according to a report. Her bail was $2,500.
Police took a report of a burglary of a motor vehicle at 10 a.m. Sunday. The burglary at 600 Newport Center Drive occurred between 8 and 10 a.m. Saturday with a loss of $115. Police took a report of a residential burglary at 9:56 a.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of Galatea Terrace. The burglary occurred between noon on Jan. 17 and noon Jan. 22 with a loss of $21,964.23. Police also took a report of a theft from a vehicle in the 1100 block of Sandpiper Drive at 9:59 a.m. Friday. The theft occurred between 5:55 and 5:58 a.m. with a loss of $4,980, according to the report.
