After 14 nights of sleeping in the cold and rain, Tommy, the homeless guy living across the street from us on Ocean Boulevard, is getting a warm bath and sleeping in a warm bed tonight. Tommy voluntarily chose to make a change. With the kind consideration and help of the NBPD, Tommy was transported with all of his food and belongings to a nearby motel. Tommy did not want to go to a shelter. He has the means to pay for a motel, so, that is where he has gone. It has been quite an experience witnessing the kindness bestowed upon Tommy from neighbors within our community. Throughout every day, neighbors brought warm meals, drinks, blankets, rain gear, love and caring. The NBPD and NBFD stopped to check on Tommy’s welfare daily. Tommy is homeless and prone to irrationality, but, he is a nice man who always had kind words for all that stopped to talk with him. Happy New Year.

We saw you out there helping him yesterday. That was so nice of you and I'm happy he had a warm place to stay last night. Life has no guarantees but it's people like you (and others here in the community) that give hope to when people are down on their luck, others are there to help. Great job and enjoy your cigar tonight - in Tommy's honor!

WOW! What a wonderful thing you are doing! Don't mean to be politically incorrect to those who don't believe, but you know the Bible says that you never know who you are helping or being kind towards, that they just might be an angel. I am in Chicago right now, trying not to get robbed anytime I walk outside my door, but when I get back, I'd like to help out.

That is great news to hear. Thank you Mr. Toerge for your compassion. We stopped by only twice but were grateful for your oversight and the neighbors at Channel Reef. (And I echo Gigi's comment that we never know who we're taking care of - and not just angels, but someone's husband, brother, son or father as well.)
