UPDATED a second time to correct the agency involved in the pursuit. UPDATED a third time with current information.

A Westminster Police Department pursuit ended in two suspects being taken into custody in Corona del Mar this afternoon.

A helicopter circled over the area of Goldenrod and Carnation avenues, and Newport Beach police blocked streets including parts of Fernleaf and Second avenues during the incident. The Newport Beach Police Department’s online log indicates a pursuit call came in at 12:27 p.m.

Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Kathy Lowe said the pursuit ended near the 500 block of Fernleaf Avenue, where a man was taken into custody.

The pursuit began about noon when a vehicle, which had been reported stolen in October in Anaheim, was seen by Westminster police, police said. The California Highway Patrol joined as the vehicle drove onto a freeway, then exited on Jamboree Road and traveled to Coast Highway, police said.

Witnesses said the driver left the vehicle on East Coast Highway and fled to Fernleaf Avenue near Third Avenue, where Westminster police arrested him. A woman passenger also was taken into custody in the vehicle, police said.

You are so kind thank you! I actually am still trying to figure out what happened. I heard the guy ran through Sherman Library, that he was hiding in a garage, all sorts of things. Will be trying to find out more tomorrow but it's tough when the agency in charge isn't local.
