Brea police arrested four people early Monday on suspicion of attempted burglary and possession of stolen property, and the suspects have been linked to at least three vehicle burglaries in Newport Beach, police said.
Two men and two women were arrested after someone called the Brea Police Department about 2:50 a.m. Monday and said two suspicion men were attempting to open the door of a parked vehicle. Police arrived at the scene and stopped the men’s vehicle and “observed a large amount of what appeared to be stolen property inside,” according to a Brea police news release.
Newport Beach police said the suspects were tied to three vehicles in Newport Beach, including an Aug. 1 incident on Tahuna Terrace, an October incident on Linda Isle and a previously unreported case on Kings Road.
“They may be responsible for others, however these are the only ones we can tie them to as of today,” said Kathy Lowe, a Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman, in an email.
In other police news, officers took a report of a vehicle burglary at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the 500 block of Marguerite Avenue The burglary occurred between 11 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 a.m. Monday with no loss reported. Officers also took a report of a grand theft with a $2,000 loss at 12:18 p.m. Monday. The theft occurred at 8086 East Coast Highway between 9:20 and 10 a.m. Monday, a report said.
