October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and the Jabulani Yoga studio — which has been holding fundraising and awareness events and classes all month — will host a free reception and yoga class tonight to benefit Laura’s House.

The reception will include wine and gourmet chocolate along with information about how you can support Laura’s House, an Orange County organization that has been helping women and children who are victims of domestic violence since 1994.

The reception will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. in the studio at 2711 East Coast Highway. From 6 to 7:15 p.m., there will be a free yoga class. Participants who plan to attend the yoga class are asked to wear proper yoga attire.

Jabulani has hosted several fundraising and awareness events this month, which is National Domestic Violence Awareness month. Events have included paddle board and yoga workshops.

Studio owner Jill Manly is a longtime supporter of Laura’s House and other charitable organizations and has expressed the belief that yoga can help victims of abuse.

The decision to name Laura’s House as one of Jabulani’s featured charities was an easy one, Manly said in an email.

“Domestic violence is shrouded in a cloud of silence and secrets,” she said. “All people, including children, need to feel safe in their homes. They should never feel the walls lock violence in and not out. Laura’s House provides the safe haven to stop patterns of abuse. It gives people a choice to act on courage and not out of fear.”
