Boat Stopped in Newport Harbor

Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officials stopped a boat about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, detaining several people who may have been entering the country illegally.
Witnesses said the boat appeared to be taking on water when it was stopped. More than a dozen people were aboard the boat, witnesses said, and one person may have had a medical emergency.
