Schools, City Buildings Participate in California Shakeout Drill

Corona del Mar and Newport Beach residents joined millions of others throughout the state today in participating in the Great California ShakeOut earthquake drill.
At the OASIS Senior Center, the drill took place at 8:30 a.m., when everyone in the building left meetings and classes and gathered in the center’s parking lot. An exercise class continued working out in the parking lot despite the drill.
Thousands of students in Newport-Mesa Unified School District schools also participated in the annual drill, which began five years ago.
