Harbor View Elementary School’s new principal could be announced next week, a district official confirmed in an email.

The principal will replace Charlene Metoyer, who announced in August that she would retire to take care of her ailing father. Former Andersen Elementary principal Mary Manos has been acting principal.

About 100 candidates applied for the position, and interviews are underway this week, said Laura Boss, a spokeswoman for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District, in an email.

“We anticipate a decision within the next week,” she said.
