Sounds Good to me. and if the community agree to pay for it then why not.
The Newport Beach Parks, Beaches & Recreation Commission will meet Tuesday and discuss whether an encroachment permit should be allowed for an emergency supply storage area in Irvine Terrace Park, according to the meeting agenda.
The storage container would be stocked with items such as batteries, tools, goggles, two-way radios, first aid supplies, a portable toilet and basic office supplies, according to a staff report.
Members of the Irvine Terrace Community Association requested the encroachment permit, which would go to the City Council for final approval if the Parks commissioners vote in favor of it. The storage of emergency supplies is part of the Newport Beach Fire Department’s Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, directives, the staff report said. Members are encouraged to organize emergency supplies at their own homes as well as in their communities. Because the Irvine Terrace Community Association doesn’t own any common-area property, the members hoped to get permission to add the storage unit in the park.
The unit would be 10-feet wide, by 20-feet long and 10-feet tall and would be placed near East Coast Highway between Evita and Chubasco drives. The community would agree to pay for the work, including grading and irrigation alterations, as well as future upkeep of the storage unit.
The Parks, Beaches & Recreation Commission meets in Council Chambers at City Hall at 3300 Newport Blvd. at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The public may attend and make comments.
