Several residents in the area of Marguerite and Fifth avenues reported hearing shots fired early this morning, police said.

“All of the callers reported hearing 2-3 ’shots’ at approximately 3:45 a.m.,” said Kathy Lowe, a police spokeswoman, in an email. “Numerous officers responded to the area and conducted a search, however they were unable to locate anything suspicious in nature.”

Corona del Mar residents haver reported similar sounds of shots or firecrackers several times since last spring.

In July and in August, several residents heard explosions or fireworks near Begonia Park, and in May, the noise came from the area near Marguerite and Fifth avenues and Corona Highlands; read our earlier story here.

I heard the noise last night -- two shots, about four minutes apart. I also heard the one in May -- that one was fireworks. I was already awake before the first noise last night, and was one of the people to call the police. Last night, it was definitely shots. An upsetting mystery.
