A Corona del Mar man has pleaded guilty to charges in connection with a May 2011 rape and standoff with police in the Cameo Shores neighborhood.
David Charles Wilson, 50, pleaded guilty Friday to one felony charge of rape by means of duress or menace, one felony charge of oral copulation by force and a misdemeanor charge of resisting police, the Daily Pilot reports. He will be sentenced Oct. 19, the report says.
Wilson was arrested May 9, 2011 after a seven-hour standoff with police at his home on Camden Drive.
A statement released that week by the district attorney’s office said the incident began the night before, when a woman went to Wilson’s home. The woman had met him a few months earlier and had spoken to him on the phone several times, the statement said. When she arrived at Wilson’s home, he choked her, threatened her, raped her and forced her to orally copulate him as well as other acts.
The woman was able to escape when a friend, who knew her whereabouts, failed to contact her by phone and drove to Wilson’s home, the statement said. The victim was able to escape through a window and run to her friend’s car, and neighbors who heard yelling called 911. Police went to Wilson’s home, but he barricaded himself inside.
Two Cameo Shores streets were closed, and police evacuated nine homes while hostage negotiators and a police SWAT team took over. He eventually surrendered.
