From the Police Log: Two Vehicle Burglaries Reported on Larkspur

Newport Beach police took reports of two vehicle burglaries within two blocks of Larkspur Avenue, including one with a loss of $41,300, according to reports.

That burglary occurred in the 700 block of Larkspur Ave. between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and was reported Thursday. The loss was Louis Vuitton and Gucci luggage, jewelry and clothing, police said.

The other burglary occurred between 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and 3 p.m. Thursday and was reported just before 4 p.m. Thursday, a report said. The loss was a radar detector valued at $500. It was unknown whether the two burglaries were connected, police said.

Police also took a report of a grand theft at San Nicolas and Newport Center drives at 1:10 p.m. Sept. 16. The theft occurred between 5:30 and 10 a.m. Sept. 13 with a loss of $14,000. The theft involved a lighting console that was taken from a sound stage at the Taste of Newport, police said. Officers also took a report of vehicle vandalism in the 2200 block of Bayside Drive on Wednesday. The vandalism caused $1,000 in damage, a report said.

I'm starting to wonder if some of these car thefts are actually fake insurance claims...who keeps $40,00 worth of Louis Vuitton and Gucci luggage, jewelry and clothing visible in their car? For that matter, who keeps anything of high value in their car, visible through windows?
