1. All the world’s a stage, even parks in Newport Beach this weekend…So why not catch a little culture at the eighth annual Shakespeare by the Sea with two free nights of comic theater en plein air at the Bonita Canyon Sports Park? The Newport Beach City Arts Commission is hosting “Love’s Labour’s Lost” on Saturday and “As You Like It” on Sunday. (Trivia for those without English degrees: “As You Like It” is the one with the “All the world’s a stage…” quote.) Pre-show activities begin at 6:45 with the curtain going up at 7 p.m. Bring a picnic dinner, a blanket or beach chairs — but don’t worry about your wallet because the shows are free. (Shakespeare by the Sea is a non-profit group that works with cities to stage these professional productions that tour Los Angeles and Orange counties during summers.) For more information, call (949) 644-3211 extension 2155. The park is located at 1990 Ford Road in Newport Beach.
2. Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Corona del Mar’s very own library branch on Marigold Avenue! The official birthday was July 28, but from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, a community celebration will feature food, balloon animals, crafts for kids and more. Like…maybe checking out a few books?
3. If you’re bikini-ready, made for TV and looking for love (or merely craving attention), why not check out the auditions for “The Bachelor” reality show? Auditions are scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Westin South Coast Plaza at 686 Anton Blvd.
4. Learn to grow begonias with a free class at Sherman Library & Gardens. The class begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at 2647. For more information, visit the Sherman Library website.
5. We’re going to see No Doubt at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on Sunday (they’re there from today through Tuesday.) Will the encore be “Stand and Deliver”? We can’t wait to find out.
